OBJECTIVE A database systems analysis and data management position
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
• Nine+ years software development experience.
• RDBMS design, coding, and management skills across the development life cycle.
• Java/J2SE (including JDBC and Swing), SQL, Perl, HTML, CSS, C, Unix, and Object-Oriented Design.
• Extensive experience with secure data migration and query generation.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
RELEVANT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Software Analysis and Programming
• Developed and deployed all database data entry, querying, and reporting applications and supporting utility classes for two magnetic resonance imaging research groups. Had complete responsibility for all phases of the development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, debugging, version control, and continued evolution of applications in accordance with user needs. Applications were written in Java JDBC and ran on Unix/Solaris, Linux, and Macintosh platforms.
• Created and deployed Unix shell scripts for compiling and installing Java and Perl applications.
• Wrote Transact-SQL stored procedures for adding data to, updating, and deleting data from the databases, performing database queries, and calculating parameters. Procedures made use of triggers, views, joins, data transformation, and cursors.
• Initiated, developed, and maintained Perl utility scripts. Scripts searched for and read Unix-based text files, invoked Unix shell commands, performed pattern matching, calculated parameters, and queried from and uploaded selected data to laboratory databases using embedded SQL (Sybperl).
• Performed trouble-shooting and maintenance of data collection and data analysis applications and lower-level software used in geophysical exploration, experimental psychology, and clinical audiology research.
Data Management
• Served as liaison to data managers from outside labs, departments, and institutions to coordinate the secure and accurate migration of data to and from local databases.
• Modeled data collection at each study time point to ensure timely and accurate implementation of study protocols and their accurate representation in database designs.
• Provided regular reports to lab investigators on research subject accrual and study time point goals, enabling efficient progress towards research objectives.
• Designed an anonymous patient identification system that enabled researchers to comply with HIPAA privacy requirements.
• Initiated and conducted periodic data audits to ensure database information was complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
Database and Database Server Administration
• Designed, implemented, and maintained a relational database management system on the Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) 12.5 platform, including component databases, data models, tables, table relationships, data structures, user applications, stored procedures, and utility scripts.
• Enforced database security through the creation of differential-privilege roles and data entry constraints at multiple levels. Security measures ensured data integrity and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliance.
• Performed various database server administration tasks on the Sybase ASE, including user login/account management, database creation, and enforcement of database design conventions across research groups to ensure lab-wide database compatibility.
Training and Technical Support
• Provided training and technical support to end users and database owners on database applications and concepts, improving database utilization and the efficacy of collaboration on database and database application design.
• Wrote and maintained user interface documentation and tutorials for database end users, and lower-level application, script, and database table code documentation for lab IT specialists.
• Taught university-level courses with full responsibility for content, lectures, group discussions, examinations, and grading.
